Create a Custom URL

Part 1) Pick Your Domain

  • You must create a three-part URL for your CrowdFiber domain. The first step is to decide what word you will use for the third part of your domain. For example:
    • join.[yourdomain].com
    • register.[yourdomain].com
    • connect.[yourdomain].com
    • fiber.[yourdomain].com

Part 2) Create Your CNAME Record

  1. Establish a CNAME record with the following attributes in your DNS.

    • Guidelines
      • The steps to establishing a CNAME vary from DNS to DNS. Your DNS provider should have step-by-step instructions regarding how to set up a CNAME. A Google search for "how to set up a CNAME in [NAME OF DNS PROVIDER]" should provide you with a link to the appropriate CNAME instructions.
      • CrowdFiber CNAME records cannot be established as an A-Record in your DNS that points to an IP address at CrowdFiber; this setup prevents CrowdFiber from maintaining your SSL certificate. All CrowdFiber CNAME records must be a CNAME entry that points to your staging site’s URL.
    • CNAME Attributes

      • Name/Alias: This will be the word you choose as the first part of your custom domain.

See Step 1: for example: join, register, connect, broadband.

      • Value/Host: Your current CrowdFiber site's URL.

This is the URL seen on the Main Page of your current CrowdFiber site.

  2. Click here to access Google Toolbox and verify that your CNAME is set up correctly.

On the following page, type in or paste your three-part custom URL (DO NOT enter "https," "www," or include a "/" after your domain in the text field).

Part 3) Establish Your SSL

1. Submit a Help Ticket.

  • After your CNAME configuration is correct, notify the CrowdFiber team by clicking the orange Help button located in the lower left-hand corner of any page within your Admin Dashboard (the button may take 5 seconds to appear on screen after the page loads).

After clicking the Help button, a Contact Us window will open. The window will be auto-filled with the name and email address (associated with your CrowdFiber user account).

2. In the "How can we help you?" textbox, enter the following one-line of text:

“[Your Custom URL (name.value)] is ready for SSL."

3. Click the orange Send button located in the lower right-hand corner of the Contact Us window.

4. Wait for The CrowdFiber Team to Respond.

  • After you submit your help ticket, CrowdFiber will do the following:

    • Verify your CNAME is set up correctly.
    • Purchase and provision an SSL certificate on your custom URL.
    • Let you know when SSL is established.

After SSL is established on your CrowdFiber site, your URL will begin propagating across web servers. Your site will be visible and securely accessible at your custom URL within 48 hours.
