Create Zone Records

What Are Zone Records?

  • Zone records are your polygons/service areas that are established in your Admin Dashboard. Zone records are the source of address data and targeted registration processes.
  • This step will create your zones in your CrowdFiber platform.

How to Create Your Zones

Part 1) View Your Import

  1. From the Imported Geographic Files Table on your Imported Geographic Files page, locate the row with your newly imported zone file and click the View link seen in the Actions Column (located in the right-most column of the table).
  2. On the following page, you'll see your zone file. If you uploaded a .zip file, you will see a list of all zone files included within your .zip file.

Part 2) Review & Preview Your Zones

  1. On the following page with the Import Zone table, the first step is to examine the Validity Column; make sure all of your shapes are valid, as invalid shapes cannot be turned into a usable zone.

  2. On this page, if you'd like to preview any of your polygons, find the row that includes the polygon you'd like to view and click the blue Preview link that's located in the Actions column of the row.

Part 3) Add Your Polygons to Your Zones Page

  • Option 1 of 3) Create a Single New Zone - Locate the row in your Imported Zones list and click the "Create zone from layer" link. Clicking the red "Apply Bulk Actions" button when creating a single zone will result in the creation of an invalid/unusable zone.

  • Option 2 of 3) Create New Zones in Bulk - If you have uploaded zones in bulk, add a unique zone name to each row in the Bulk Create New Zone column of the Imported Zones Index.

  1. In the "Bulk create new zone column," add unique names for all of your polygons/layers in your GIS file.

  2. Click the red Apply Bulk Actions button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

You will automatically be taken back to your Imported Geographic Files page.

  3. From the Imported Geographic Files page, click the Zones link located in the left-hand rail of your Admin Dashboard.

Scroll to the bottom of your Zones page. All of your new zones, created in bulk, will be appropriately named and located at the bottom of the Zones Index on your Zones page.

By default, all zones that are created in bulk will be created with the Zone Type "Private" (they will be visible on your zone maps, but they will not take orders). You will have to manually adjust your new zones’ Zone Type to In-Service or Pre-Registration.

  • Option 3 of 3) Add Polygons to an Existing Zone Record - If you would like to add more polygons to a pre-existing zone record, utilize the Bulk Assign to column of the Imported Zones Index.

This option can be carried out with newly imported or pre-existing GIS files in your CrowdFiber database.

  2. In the following drop-down menu, select the name of the Zone record where you would like to add a polygon.

Continue to repeat steps 1 and 2 above until you have associated all applicable polygons/layers with the appropriate Zone record(s).

  3. Click the red Apply Bulk Actions button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

The new polygon will immediately be added to the existing Zone record.
